Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that are due to neuromusculoskeltal conditions (problems with the nerves, muscles and bones including their attachments of of joints, ligaments, particularly those of the spine. Treatment consists of a wide range of manipulative techniques designed to improve the function of the joints, muscles and nerves. When the body works better, are less muscle fatigue, decreased spasm, improved mobility and most often reduced pain. Chiropractic does not involve the use of any drugs or surgery.
The British Chiropractic Association (BCA), founded in 1925 ensures all its chiropractors will have undergone a minimum four-year full-time internationally-accredited undergraduate course and are registered with the General Chiropractic Council, the UK's statutory regulator for the profession.
Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession, so you do not need to be referred by your doctor. A chiropractor is trained to diagnose your problem and will refer you to another health-care practitioner if necessary. Patients see chiropractors in a private capacity either through self referral or as a result of a referral from their GP, other health professionals including physiotherapists, podiatrists and sports therapists. BCA chiropractors also treat people who are seeking treatment through private health insurers including claims through road traffic accidents and injuries at work.
The effectiveness of chiropractic treatment is supported by research as well as by various UK government and medical organisations. In common with medical practitioners and dentists, all chiropractors are registered by law under the Chiropractors Act 1994 and the title ‘Chiropractor’ is protected under this legislation. The profession is statutorily regulated through the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and it is illegal to practise as a chiropractor without being registered with the GCC.
The Chiropractors at Annexe Chiropractic are registered with the General Chiropractic Council and the British Chiropractic Association. Dr Lee Goodwin Dc is also registered with the British Medical Acupuncture Association, registered treatment provider for Chiropractic with BUPA, AXA PPP and all other major health insurance providers as well as The Injury Care Clinics(TICCS) and IRPS treatment providers.
He has a four year Honours Degree in Health Promotion 1994 and a four year Doctorate in Chiropractic from the Canadian Memeorial Chiropractic Association 1998 and Diploma from the Traditional Academy of Acupuncture(Toronto) in 1997. He uses a combination of treatment techniques specific to the individual patient. This often includes manipulation, soft tissue therapy, nerve mobilisation, acupuncture and a rehabilitative exercise treatment program specific to the patient. Patients are from all walks of life from professional athlete to pensioners and conditions treated range from migraine and neuralgia(head) to ankle arthritis(foot) but mainly with the bits in between especially the spine.
