Core stability relates to deep muscles that stabilize the spine and pelvis, running the whole length of the torso. These muscles work to provide a stable foundation for movement to occur in our limbs. When these muscles are working effectively it makes the body efficient, distributes the stresses of weight bearing, and help maintain a good posture. When these muscles are not working effectively, muscle imbalance can occur, which in turn can lead to poor posture and back problems.
Pilates is a mind body conditioning exercise program. It is a way of retraining this core system, to recondition the body from its central core, to prevent recurrence of injuries, and postural problems.
