Far more than a recent fitness craze, the Pilates Method has been developed and practised since the 1920's when Joseph and Clara Pilates opened their Body Conditioning Gym in New York City. Originally devised to be performed on specialised Pilates Apparatus, Pilates developed his unique system of conditioning to help rehabilitate those injured in the First World War.
While some of this work has now been adapted to be performed in a Matwork setting, Studio Pilates offers a profoundly multi-dimensional approach and greatly increased individual attention which can be given in a one-to-one or small group environment.
Classes are taught in specially equipped, dedicated Pilates studio either on a one-to-one basis or in very small groups (up to 3) and last 60 minutes.
Clients work on large, specialised pieces of apparatus - the Reformer, Trapeze Table (Cadillac), Ladder Barrel and Wunda Chair. This equipment is used to provide resistance to challenge as well as to provide support for your body, as required.
Your teacher, Magdalen Hardy, will assess your requirements and then adapt the studio and tailor the course of work given, to suit your individual needs.
In order to progress, clients would benefit from three or four weekly sessions to establish the work. They may then choose to come for sessions weekly, fortnightly, monthly or just occasionally depending on their own personal requirements and circumstances.
Magdalen will continue develop your programme, ensuring you are progressing appropriately and in line with your desired objectives.
